Give wild-harvested coral a verifiable digital origin

Wild coral harvest is not yet subject to mandatory tagging under the Australian Wildlife Traceability System (AWTS), but wild-harvest fishers can choose to use the full platform. Recording their harvest gives wild coral a digital origin from the point of collection, so it can be clearly distinguished from captive-bred stock and carried through to export.

Voluntary participation

Wild-harvest tagging is not currently required. Fishers who choose to take part use the same traceability tools as the wider fishery.

Coral fishers running captive-breeding facilities must be able to prove a specimen is genuinely captive bred, and carry that proof through to export. AWTS records propagation as it happens and links each specimen to the evidence and export documentation needed for CITES Appendix II trade.
