Wild coral harvest is not yet subject to mandatory tagging under the Australian Wildlife Traceability System (AWTS), but wild-harvest fishers can choose to use the full platform. Recording their harvest gives wild coral a digital origin from the point of collection, so it can be clearly distinguished from captive-bred stock and carried through to export.
Wild-harvest tagging is not currently required. Fishers who choose to take part use the same traceability tools as the wider fishery.
